About the Event
How did Slovakia become an independent state in 1939—and what did that independence really mean? The creation of the wartime Slovak State brought new political power, but also deep dependence on Nazi Germany and difficult choices for the country and its people.
At the center of this story stood Jozef Tiso, whose regime remains one of the most controversial subjects in Slovak history. The Holocaust in Slovakia, collaboration, resistance, and the Slovak National Uprising all became defining parts of this extraordinary and deeply complex period.
This webinar offers a focused introduction to the themes explored in Nazi Slovakia: The Most Controversial Chapter in Slovak History, Vladimír Štrama’s new four-week live masterclass beginning this September.
About the Speaker
Vladimír Štrama is a historian and PhD candidate specializing in Central and Eastern European history, national identity, political thought, and the ways history is remembered and interpreted.
